She walks in beauty, like the night

바이런 경은 어느 파티에서 검은 상복 차림의 아름다운 사촌누이 윌멋 호튼(Wilmot Horton) 부인을 만났다. 상복에는 반짝이는 장식품이 달려 있었다. 그녀의 아름다움에 매혹당한 그는 이튿날 새벽에 당장 이 시를 썼다고 한다. 이 시는 그 뒤로 아름다운 여인의 모습을 묘사하는 데에 많이 인용되고 있다.
