영어회화를 빠른 시일 내에 잘하고 싶다면 자신이 실제 가장 많이 쓰는 말부터 하나씩 정리해서 달달 외우는 방법을 권한다.
자주 쓰는 표현을 정리하다 보면 말 속에 일정한 패턴이 있음을 알 수 있다.
다음에 예로 든 표현들을 보자.

난 지저분한 것을 깨끗이 치우러 왔다. I´m here to clean up the mess.
난 영화를 보러 왔다. I´m here to watch the movie.
난 당신에게 부탁하러 왔다. I´m here to ask you a favor.
난 책을 한 권 사러 왔다. I´m here to buy a book.

여기서 ‘~하러 왔다’라는 의미의 ‘I´m here to…’가 바로 패턴이다. 위의 예문들은 모두 다른 의미의 내용이지만,
똑같은 패턴에 단어만 바꿔 넣은 것이다. 이렇게 패턴 하나만 잘 암기해두면 단어를 바꿔 넣으면서 수십 가지의
표현을 쉽게 말하고 쓸 수 있다. 패턴을 모른 채 공부하면 각각의 표현을 일일이 다 외워야 하기에 정리도 안 되고,
암기하기도 어렵다.

일상에서 실제로 자주 쓰이는 패턴은 그리 많지 않다. 200개 정도.

영어회화 패턴 다음으로 가장 많이 쓰이는 것이 바로 기본동사다. 만능동사라고도 하는데 get, have,take,keep, make,
give,do, go,come 등이 이에 해당한다. 이 동사들만 잘 정리하고 관련 예문을 외우면 구사할 수 있는 영어표현이 크게
늘어난다.
자주 사용하는 만큼 뜻도 다양하다. 각 단어당 40~200가지의 의미와 용법이 있으며,문화 차이로 인한
관용표현도 많기 때문이다. 기본동사 중에서도 가장 많이 쓰이는 get, take, have, keep 동사와 관련된 예문을 몇 개만

‘Take 동사 예문’

1) 내 말대로 해봐. Just take my advice and do it.
2) 제발 나도 좀 데리고 가세요. Please take me with you.
3) 엘리베이터를 타고 2층에서 내리세요. Take the elevator to the second floor.
4) 아기가 누구를 닮았나요? Who does your baby take after?
5) 난 산책하고 싶다. I feel like taking a walk.
6) 집에 가는 데 30분가량 걸린다. It takes 30 minutes for me to get home.

‘Have 동사 예문’

1) 그는 식성이 좋다. He has a good appetite.
2) 내일은 근무 안 해요. I have the day off tomorrow.
3) 물어보고 싶은 게 있어요. I have something to ask you.
4) 너 참 눈 높다. You have really high standards.
5) 사랑니를 뺐어요. I had my wisdom tooth pulled out.

‘Keep 동사 예문’

1) 계속 할까요? Can I keep going?
2) 내 말 명심해! Keep my word in mind!
3) 내 시계는 잘 맞아요. My watch keeps good time.
4) 너 비밀을 지킬 수 있니? Can you keep a secret?
