Yeah, as you mentioned this is a term originally coming from emergency, probably hospital problem, somebody is injured.
말했듯이 이 단어는 원래 부상을 당한 경우, 병원에서와 같은 응급상황에서 유래했다.
But DOA, Dead on arrival is also used as kind of an expression! to indicate that a new item has arrived broken or some idea has no chance of making it.
"DOA, Dead on arrival" 은 또한 새로운 제품이 부서진 채로 배달된 경우나 실현 가능성이 없는 아이디어를 말할 때 쓸 수 있다.

Hey, the other night I was watching television and I saw something on a home shopping program.
요전 날 밤에 나는 텔레비전을 보았고, 홈쇼핑 프로그램에서 어떤 제품을 봤다.
I thought "Oh, I would love to have that." So I made a phone call and I was very surprised. The next day the item was delivered.
"저걸 갖고 싶어" 라고 생각했고, 전화를 했다. 나는 정말 놀랐다. 다음날 그 제품은 도착을 했다.
On arrival at my door the deliveryman "Knock, knock, knock. Hello, Mr. Valentine! Your package has arrived."
상품 배달원이 집에 도착했을 때. "똑, 똑, 똑. 안녕하세요, 밸런타인 씨! 소포가 도착했습니다."
Oh, I was so happy. I couldn't believe such a fast delivery. On delivery I noticed that the box had already been open.

In the backpack I noticed there're two pineapples. So I said to the deliveryman, "Hey, are those my pineapples?"

He said, "Ah, yes, sir. I'll give them to you on demand." So, "Give me my pineapples!" So he did.
