1. set off : ~을 작동하게 하다, 촉발시키다. (initiate)

1. set off
Set off, we know, when we set an alarm, we're preparing for an alarm to ring.
We have all kinds of alarms. Don't we have alarm clocks? Car alarms, fire alarms,
even our own emotions and feelings can be set off. So to set off means to begin
warning sounds.
2. cut off
Oh, yes, of course, to cut off, well, we have connections all around us, don't we?
Connection to the Internet, cable TV, our cell phones.
We are connected in many ways. However sometimes that connection is broken,
in that case we're disconnected or we're cut off.
3. blow off
Well, now, very interesting expression 'to blow off' simply means to cancel
but not cancel just not show up, not really care about something,
so don't do it, just forget about it.

You know, these days almost every car has some sort of alarm safety feature.
Unfortunately somebody can accidentally set off your alarm. It might happen enough
that you begin not to care about it. You just blow it off. You might hear your alarm of
your car being set off and you think 'Oh man, I'm not getting my shoes on and
going down to check to my car, just blow it off, forget about it.
You might be surprised someday. Someone might steal your car.
So I don't recommend you cut off your alarm system. Don't do that. Don't blow if off either.
