1. stay around
You know, Jake, the word 'around' gives me the feeling of 'in this area',
not exactly only one spot but not far away either, just around here
in this area, so to stay around means don't go far away.
▶ around라는 단어는 우리에게 '이 지역에서'라는 느낌을 준다.
정확히 한 군데가 아니고 또한 멀리 떨어진 것도 아니다.
그냥 여기 근처를 말한다. 그래서 stay around는 멀리 가지 않는다는 뜻이다.
2. shop around
Oh, to shop, of course, is to go shopping to look for something probably
to buy it, clothing or car, technology whatever you're looking for.
To shop around, then, is to look in a variety of places maybe even to compare
quality, to compare prices, to compare all the situations to go shopping
in more than one place.
You know, Jake, as I mentioned, of course 99% of the time when we wanna
buy something, we're trying to buy something with our money, we might use
this expression. But sometimes it is also used when looking for something else
not to buy. For example maybe you wanna get a new job or you wanna get
married, shop around.
▶ 물론 shop은 어떤 것을 찾으러 쇼핑을 하러 가는 것이다. 아마 옷이나 차, 기술,
혹은 당신이 찾고 있는 어떤 것이든 그것을 사려고 하는 것일 거다.
shop around는 다양한 장소를 보는 것이다. 아마 품질을 비교하고 가격을 비교하고
모든 상황을 비교하기 위해서 한 군데보다 더 많은 곳을 쇼핑하는 것이다.
내가 언급했듯이 우리가 뭘 사기를 원할 때, 돈으로 뭔가를 사려고 할 때
99%의 경우는 이 표현을 사용한다. 하지만 때로는 사는 것이 아니라 어떤 것을
구할 때도 이 표현은 사용된다. 예를 들면 새로운 직업을 구하거나 결혼을
하기를 원할 때도 shop around가 쓰인다.
3. show around
Ah, to show around perhaps is to act almost like a guy where you tell people
"Look over here and look over there and this is over here and that's over there"
kind of instructing or guiding someone.
▶ show around는 사람들에게 "여기를 보세요, 저기를 보세요, 이것은 여기 있고요
저것은 저기 있어요."라고 말하는 사람처럼 행동하는 것이다.
사람들에게 일종의 소개나 안내를 하는 것이다.

Oh, several years ago, Jake, some friends of mine were visiting from another
country, from the United States and Canada in fact.
I wanted to show around my friends, to show them some other more popular
tourist attractions. They wanted to go shopping. They wanted to buy some souvenirs.
So I took them to shop around a little bit. We went here and there.
I think they really enjoyed themselves. They would've like to stay around
for a while but unfortunately they had to get on a plane and return home.
I hope, though, return to Korea someday.
