1. fill out
To fill out, F I L L, means what, to provide something in an empty space.

2. sign out
To sign out means that you're willing to put your name or your ID number
to some action that you're doning.
Imagine when you go to a library, you would like to take one of the books home
with you. you can't put just in your pocket, walk away.
You've got to say "I am taking this book. I am taking responsibility.
I will sign out this book."

3. come out
Yeah, to come out simply means that something is now available.
Perhaps a factory will come with a new item or you might hear an advertising,

1. break out
Break out, Jake. We often say when you look in a dictionary for these expressions,
you will find  them. Many of them have definitions, not only one.
Today we're focusing on the idea that something will erupt, something will happen,
something will apper, expecially on your skin.
We talk about zits, pimples and acnes. When they start to happen,
we say they are breaking out. Break out.

2. eat out
To eat out. Well, we talked  about eat in already.
Eat in is to have a meal at home, the opposite eat out, go out, to eat at a restaurant.

3. spit out
Spit out, (의성어) yeah.. "Hey, not on my face."
Oh I am sorry. I'm trying to help you understand.
Spit out, then, is to get it out of your mouth whether it's liquid
or piece of food or even language.
Something is hard to say, the best way: Spit it out! Get it out quickly!

Ah, 길동 was telling me a story that 민희 was a little depressed
because she had gotten a new hair style when I bought some new lipstick,
very delicious lipstick. And she was looking very good
but suddenly her face began to break out.
길동 said "Hey, don't worry about it. You look good to me. Let's go out to a restaurant.
We can eat out tonight. How's that?"
She said, "Well, I don't know. Jake told me that when my face breaks out
I should eat a lot of vegetables and fruit that will help me in."
So they went to the restaurant. While eating she forgot Jake's advice.

Hey looking at the calendar. It looks like because today is Arbor day. We should plant some sort of a potluck dinner. It wouldn’t that be fun.

Now it’s not easy to do because we have to work out who’s going to bring what we don’t want everybody to bring the same thing.

So we work out who’s going to bring what. We can sort out who’s going to bring, for example, salads who’s going to bring meat dishes, things like that.

If we get a good menu going, I’m sure we can carry out the whole thing. We can all have a great time and have a fun meal together.

On the Internet there are all types of people.
We would like to think it's very enjoyable and educational experience.
However, there are some bad people who bully other people.
They push them around.
However, it's not so good if you are a young defenseless child.
There is a program called the Sunfull Movement that is trying to make the Internet a better safer place for students
and there is a particular school called the Tiger Country School that is participating in this program as well.


The story is called Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Well this is not a new story.
We heard this story many many times.
We've actually seen it in the movie theater as well quite a few times.
Originally written by Mr. Lewis Carroll back in 1865s it's not an easy story to tell.
In fact filmmakers have had a hard time putting the story to film.
It is out again and very popular.
It's a big hit.
If you have a chance, go and check it out.

How to root out weeds! There are some good homemade killers. One of the best is vinegar. I know perhaps you like a 물냉면. If it were vinegar in there, that’s good for you.

However it’s not for weeds. For best results, don’t dilute it with water. Choose time to spray when there’s no sign of rain. Spray the vinegar on your weeds and they won’t live.

Well you know Gil-dong and I were working in the garden. We found a lot of weeds out. We decided it was time to root out those weeds.

길동과 저는 정원에서 일하고 있었습니다. 잡초 들이 무성했지요. 그래서 잡초를 뿌리 뽑기로 결정했습니다.

Dig deep and while we are doing that, Gil-dong said to me we’ve been working so long all day in the sun beginning we tire out.

땅을 깊이 파서 작업을 하는 동안 길동은 태양 볕 아래 너무 일 많이 했다며 피곤해 지기 시작했다고 말했습니다.

I said “tire out” we’ve been only working for ten minutes. What do you mean tire out? He said John I’m not used to this kind of hard work. I told him clean out the tool box and hit the road!

뭐. 피곤하다고! 이제 겨우 십분 일했는데 뭐가 피곤하다는 거야? 그가 대답하길 이런 류의 일에는 익숙하지 않다며 변명했습니다. 저는 공구들 잘 챙기고 다시 시작하라고 말했습니다.

The Ho gook school is participating in a nationwide program called “the Sun Full Movement”. The aim is to stop the cyber-bullying and create a more positive atmosphere on the internet.

발기(勃起)와 발기(發起)에 관련된 이야기도 많다. 전자는 ‘갑자기 불끈 일어남’을, 후자는 ‘앞장서서 새로운 일을 꾸며 일으킴’을 이른다. 영어로 하면 전자는 erection이고, 후자는 promotion이다. 고(故) 정주영 현대그룹 회장이 밀어주어 국회의원이 된 고(故) 정주일(코미디언 이주일) 의원은 정계입문 직후 “발기대회(發起大會)를 한다기에 발기(勃起) 좀 해볼까 하고 가봤더니 정주영·김동길같이 발기(勃起)와 관계없어 보이는 사람들만 앉아 있더라”는 우스갯소리를 했다. 더 이상 재미있을 수 없는 개그의 백미요, 말장난(wordplay)이었다.

재담꾼으로 소문난 토니 블레어 전 영국 총리는 노동당 당수 시절과 총리 재직 시 외국을 방문하면서 숱한 화제를 남겼다. 그중의 백미는 1996년 1월 노동당 당수 자격으로 일본을 처음 방문했을 때 발생한 ‘발기(勃起·erection)’사건이다.

블레어 전 총리의 홍보수석비서관을 지낸 알래스테어 캠벨(Alastair Camp- bell)은 2007년 ‘블레어 시대: 알래스테어 캠벨 일기(The Blair Years: The Alastair Campbell Diaries)’에서 에피소드 하나를 공개했다. 한편으로는 당혹스럽기 그지없는 황당한 이야기요, 한편으로는 요절복통할 공개적인 모욕이었다.

사건의 발단은 이렇다. 블레어가 총리로 선출되기 직전 영어가 서툰 일본의 한 기업인이 블레어 당수에게 “A whole of Japan is looking forward to your election(일본 국민 모두는 당신이 선거에서 당선되기를 고대하고 있습니다)”이라는 의미로 “A whole of Japan is rookin fowad to your erection(일본 국민 모두는 당신이 발기(勃起)가 잘 되기를 고대하고 있습니다)”이라고 말했다. 알(r)과 엘(l)의 발음이 서툰 데서 생긴 일이었다.

그러면서 그(일본 기업인)는 블레어 당수가 최고가 되라는 뜻으로 엄지손가락을 위로 치켜들면서 “Big one”이란 말을 반복했다. 선거에서 승리해 큰 인물이 되라는 뜻을 담으려 한 것이었으나 발기(勃起)라는 단어 때문에 ‘큰 성기’를 의미하는 것으로 이해됐다. 이 말을 듣고 블레어 당수는 대경실색했다.

위와 같이 발음은 같거나 비슷하나 뜻이 다른 말을 일부러 오용(誤用)하여 말장난(wordplay)하는 것을 malapropism(Malaprop식의 말씨), 또는 pun(동음이의해학(同音異義諧謔)이라고 한다. 또 하나의 예를 보자.

English muffins were not invented in England.

French fries were not invented in France.

Uh, funny story. You know, warm weather is on the way. So Hong Kil-Dong and his wife Min Hee, they decided to go to the store and buy new swimming suits. Very exciting time.

재미있는 이야기야. 날씨가 따뜻해 지고 있어. 그래서 홍길동과 그의 아내 민희는 상점에 가서 새 수영복을 사기로 했어. 아주 즐거운 시간이지.  

So of course Min Hee, she bought a bikini. Looking good, yeah. Kil Dong also, he thought "I want a bikini, too." Oh, doesn't look very good. 

그래서 민희는 비키니를 샀어. 보기 좋아. 길동도 생각했어. "나도 비키니 사고 싶다." 별로 보기 좋지 않아. 

Anyway, they decided to practice swimming and they wanted to break in their new swimming suits.

어쨌든 그들은 수영 연습을 하기로 했어. 그들은 그들의 새 수영복을 편하게 만들고 싶었어.  

They got to the swimming area and Min Hee told her husband, Kil Dong "Climb up very high and dive in. Dive in. Don't be afraid. Dive in. Have a hope of breaking in your swimming suit."

그들은 수영장에 갔어. 민희는 그의 남편 길동에게 말했어. " 높은 곳에 올라가서 다이빙 해. 다이빙 해. 겁먹지 말고, 다이빙 해. 수영복을 편하게 만들어."   

He did it. Wow, very, took a lot of guts but he did it. And then he said, "Darling, my wife, it's your turn to dive in."
